On September 1, 1901, President McKinley was assassinated in Buffalo, New York while attending the pan American Exposition. The assassin, Leon Czologosz. Czologosz was born in 1873, Detroit, Michigan. Leon was an employee of a wire mill factory, and left shortly after his pay was cut. He moved around, working in different factories. At some of the factories that he and his brothers worked at, were large strikes. During these strikes he saw the extreme difference of the rich and poor, and that angered him deeply.
