To this day, Leonardo da Vinci was and still is known as one of the world's most famous artists. He was one of the most important people of the Renaissance, which is a great culture movement that had developed in Italy in the 1300's. Some of the most famous paintings in the world belonged to Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, outside their village near Florence, Italy. Leonardo da Vinci was the son of a legal specialist, Ser Piero da Vinvi, and Caterina, and peasant women. Leonardo da Vinci had twelve brothers. During his lifetime, Leonardo studied many subjects, known as anatomy, astronomy, botany, geology geometry, optics, and he made designs for machines and drew plans for many different inventions. Leonardo was often called a universal genius because he excelled in such an enormous number of areas of human knowledge. Even though he was a very intelligent man, he had little interest in literature, religion, and history. Leonardo da Vinci developed a few scientific laws, but never formulated his ideas regularly. He was an excellent observer, and he concerned himself with what the eye could see, rather that with strictly ideal concepts (Summers). …show more content…
During this sixteen years, he composed the greater part of his extended notebooks that establish the marvelous skillfulness and representation of his genius.
