In 1723 after he graduated the University of Basel he followed his parents wishes and entered the theological faculty, however that is not where Leonhard Euler wished to be. Soon after Euler's father realized that his son was destined elsewhere he let his son pursue mathematics. Euler's personal meeting continued with Johann Bernoulli, it is in these meetings scholars began to realize the extraordinary mathematical talents of the young Euler. A year later, Euler decided that he would compete for the position of the vacant physics chair at the University of Basel, but he failed to attain the position due to the lack of experience. His failure sent him off to teach physics alongside mathematic at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences. It is during his time at the Academy that his work flourished.
