America: The Land Of “Dreams”
Was America a dream for everyone? In my opinion, it really wasn’t. Not everyone who moves to America is going to have their dreams come true. Walt Whitman and Langston Hughes both wrote a poem about America being a dream. My opinions on both of the perspectives are totally different.
In the poem “Let America Be America Again” (by Langston Hughes I say no, it wasn’t a dream. “…poor white, fooled and pushed apart, I am the Negro bearing slavery’s scars, I am the red man driven from the land…” The reason why it wasn’t a dream is because black people had to suffer for so many years.
