Lewis and Clark were disrespectful to the Native Americans they met on their journey because they used dehumanizing actions such as manipulation and threatening. Three examples taken from the documents given help support the claim that Lewis and Clark did not show respect for the Natives when they entered their land. One example of this takes place in Document A, which states, “In all your interactions with the natives, treat them in the most friendly and conciliatory manner.Assure them that the purpose of your journey is innocent.” Lewis, Clark, and the rest of their crew acted kind to the Natives so they could befriend them and show no threat.
