I have always wanted to work with rehabilitation of drug users/offenders, offenders and/or the wrongfully accused. I am a strong opinion that offenders do not get the proper rehabilitation; therefore, the result is repeat offenders being incarnated or relapse for drug offenders. In an example, you have a person who is in jail for burglary and does his punishment but when they get out they return to their same lifestyle. However, this person was a known drug users and committing burglary for his drug use. When a person has a headache, they may take aspirin or something along those lines. The headache may go away for a while or come back, this is because you are fixing the symptom not cause of the headache. Moreover, when you sentence a person to jail you are fixing the symptom not the problem (i.e. drugs). Rehabilitation is needed to get to the root of the issue and help people overcome the issues that lead them into trouble. With that being said, a liberal arts education will help me combat these issues. I will receive my degree in General Studies with a concentration in Criminal Justice. Further, a Christian liberal arts degree will add a bonus not only to my career but to my character as well. God has sent in His image Jesus Christ to redeem us for our sins. Christ paved the road for us by teaching us the way to God and dying for the forgiveness of our sins. I realize in order to be well-rounded, I need to learn subjects beyond the basics and have a solid core within. That solid core is God. I received everything I needed from a liberal arts degree. The degree has shaped me and made me grow, not only with knowledge, but spiritually. I am not sure what other degree can give all a person everything they need to succeed with their career and in life. My degree is tailored for me to help people who are in need. “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Hebrews 13:16, NIV). My experience at IWU has been WONDERFUL! The staff has been nothing but supportive and caring. IWU was definitely the school for me. It met all my needs and expectations. I started my school career at Purdue Calumet. Although Purdue Calumet is a great school, it was not for me. I was not challenged and extremely bored. I loved the course I was able to take at IWU and it was challenging, never boring. I am definitely considering IWU for my master’s program. To add, I am confident that my liberal arts education will help be prepared for that journey. I
