There have been an unfathomable amount of people who have made an impact on this world; of the names on that list is the one of Liberty Hyde Bailey. Liberty had life “all” figured out at a young age, or so he thought. He had his life outlined in the following manner; twenty-five years he would spend his life in preparation (learning), twenty-five years in which he would work and earn his livelihood, and then another twenty-five years he would spend doing anything he pleased and able to do until he would then pass away. Liberty Hyde Bailey was born on March 15, 1858 and passed away on December 25, 1954 at the age of 96. As you are able to see, his sequence of three twenty-five years consisting of differing goals didn’t go quite as planned seeing how he lived an additional 21 years. In outliving his original set of goals, it allowed him more time doing what he loved. Throughout this essay we will focus on the life of Liberty Hyde Bailey and how he was able to leave a legacy to be carried on which would be further developed after his passing.
