A Fortunate Son In June of 1968 “half a million troops were on duty in Vietnam” (CITATION). One of these soldiers was Lieutenant Lewis B. Puller. Lieutenant Puller was the son of a highly decorated marine general. During Lieutenant Puller’s time in Vietnam he led his company on a search operation where he was injured. His injuries included loss of both legs, fingers on both hands, and he shell fragments covering his body. Lieutenant Puller wrote an autobiography titled A Fortunate Son that accounted his time in Vietnam. By reading this story the reader learns how influential parents were in urging boys to fight in the Vietnam War. They see the son of a decorated general going to his war even though he sees Vietnam as ¨hell¨(CITATION). He even
