My name is Jezel Mejia and I would like to share a recent setback that I've encountered. The process of obtaining a driving permit not only signifies a milestone in an individual's life but also demands responsibility, proficiency in driving skills, and adherence to safety regulations, ultimately contributing to the development of safer and more competent drivers. I am interested in obtaining my driving permit so that I can get a job and be able to drive myself to and from work. I am a young and independent individual ready for more responsibilities and so I wanted to gather all the information needed to get my driving permit. I was so excited and ready to get a job so that I could work and be able to buy whatever I wanted and be a little more independent. But little did I know, I was told I now needed to complete 50 hours of behind the wheel, practicing my driving with a parent before I could then schedule the behind the wheel hours with a driving instructor, and then having to wait six more months before I could apply for the actual driving test at the DMV. This was devastating to hear. Here I was thinking I could just pass the test needed to get my permit and just start driving. I was encouraging my own mom to get herself a new car and telling her how she deserved it so I could keep her old one. I think at some point my parents knew that it wouldn't be this easy but didn't want to tell me to possibly not disappoint me but then again it's been too long for them since their first born so, truly I believe they forgot the process since they looked as puzzled as I was. so, here we are, maybe 10 hours in and about 100 more to go. Life is hard sometimes, though. I tell you, the patience it is teaching me and the perseverance to not give up is really growing in me. I know I have to complete these hours to get ready for when I schedule my driving
