The next step is the sixth step and it is possibly the most important step in the story as the entire middle section of the book is this part. In this step Pi comes face to face with his adventure. He must endure challenges and test, meet new friends, and face enemies. Pi does all of this throughout his journey at sea. He passes tests like making it through storms, getting fresh water and food, and surviving the sharks. As for friends and enemies, I think that you could argue whether Richard Parker is friend or foe, but I think he was very important to Pi’s story. At one point Pi even says that “Without Richard Parker, I wouldn’t be alive today,” I think this shows how much Richard Parker really means to Pi (ch. 57). After many months the journey becomes too much for Pi and Richard Parker, and on the brink of death they reach the mysterious floating island.
