In the excerpt "Life on the Mississippi " by Mark Twain .Twain is describing his experiences as a steamboat commander on the Mississippi river . He describes the river as a book .Twain says "The face of the water , in time , became a wonderful book"(Line 1).In my opinion , Twain means that something different is happening on the river every times he goes . Twain says" And it was not a book to be read once and thrown aside, for it had a new story to tell every day"(Line 3 ) . First , Twain tells about the familiarity he has with the river .
