Life Span Interview The two people being interviewed represent two different stages of the life span: middle adulthood and adolescence. Middle adulthood “begins at approximately 40 to 45 years of age and extends to about 60 to 65 years of age” (Santrock, 2023). Amber is a 52 year old Asian American woman with three children. She has been experiencing middle adulthood for a decade now and feels that she can accurately represent what it feels like to be living through it. Amber feels the loss in strength, in senses, in immune function, and in cognitive aspects. Although this does not impact daily functioning, it limits the opportunities and tasks she can perform for long periods of time. Overall, while she is content with her stage of life, Amber feelings do coincide with many that the middle adulthood stage feels. Adolescence On the other hand, Jayin is a classic teenager struggling through her adolescent years. She is experiencing puberty, which is defined as “the process of physical maturation where an adolescent reaches sexual maturity and becomes capable of reproduction” (Breehl & Caban, 2023). This is accompanied by a growth spurt, mood swings, and improvements in problem-solving and decision making skills. Like every teenager, Jayin feels as though her problems are unique to her. She feels as though she does not understand herself and does not know where her life is headed, whereas she believes everyone else does. Based on the theories of Erik Erikson, she is in the stage known as “Identity vs. Role Confusion” that occurs roughly between the ages of 12-18 years
