There I was sitting on that paint peeled lifeguard tall chair with that red floating device on my lap staring up into the sea blue sky, nothing could get better than this. It was a paradise. “Jhonny, what are you doing up there? were not paying you to stare at the sky” I looked and saw my boss standing at the base of the lifeguard chair. “Come on boss, I just saved a guy last week” “what do you mean? Your friend Andrew did most of the work, you didn't even touch the guy," I sighed. He was right, I'm not much of a lifesaver, I'm just here for a summer job. I looked out towards the ocean, seeing all the families playing in the water. “I'll try to do better, boss.” I replied. “That's what I like to hear,” my boss said with a smirk.

With some strangers' help, we stopped the bleeding when someone gave me their shirt to use as a bandage. Before long, the authorities arrived and the man was rushed to the hospital. I can't remember much after that, it was just a blur of doctors and surgeons. When I finally woke up, I heard the news. Despite the doctors and our best efforts, the man died from his wounds. As I recovered in the hospital, the news kept coming from more shark attack victims, some were saved and some were not. A few days after I was released from the hospital, one more person had been attacked and that person was my favorite cousin Joe who had been attacked at Matawan Creek on July 12. He had been barely saved by someone named Captain Cottrell, but I didn't know what condition he was in
