The lab experiment was performed to determine whether or not the color of the light spinach leaves is exposed to affects the rate of its photosynthesis. Using a hole punch, we manipulated spinach leaves into the syringe with the buffer (NaHCO3) and the removed the gas from each leave with a vacuum. The leaf disks were then separated into two beakers. One beaker was exposed to the light while the one serves as the control. The beakers were placed in the fluorescent light to observe and record the time it takes for leaf disks to ascent to the surface of the solution. We concluded that the amount of carbon dioxide in the environment of the spinach had an effect on the rate of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is a redox reaction that requires carbon
