This paper analyzes the case study at Lincoln Valley Community College (LVCC), an institution where education is considered the top priority of a diverse student population. The institution offers a comprehensive academic environment to approximately 20,000 students. Its student population consists of 35% Hispanic and Latino, 20% Asian American, 22% White, 15% African American, 6% international, and 2% Native American. The students appreciate the quality personal service that the college offers through the faculty with a student ratio of 18:1. In fact, since the student population for this program is diversified, the faculty members who teach these students should also be. LVCC is offering a new associate’s degree program in administration studies which is the first of its kind in the district. The new program is a collaborative undertaking involving the departments of business and government. If the program is successful, it will serve as a model program for other institutions in the area. One of the student’s, who is also an employee of the college, feels that ELL students should be granted extra time for the placement test. However, the institution’s current policies regarding ELL students are unclear, whereas students with disabilities are given time extensions for some tests. Part-time faculty members support the time extension, while full-time faculty do not.
