Second Inaugural Address In Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address, he was speaking to let everyone know what he planned to do in the future. He talked about the war and how it was necessary. He also talked about how he was ready for the war to be over. He said, “Fondly do we hope---fervently do we pray---that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away” (Hubbard, 2014, p. 149). I think Lincoln knew that the war was coming to an end and wanted to let the people know that while he wanted the war to happen, he was ready for the fighting to be over.
