People have a vital line which connects individuals and families with the past, present, and future. During a crisis this can become disconnected and if left unresolved can create a variety of problems such as addiction. Therefore, using the Link Approach can intervene and provide support systems which help create empowerment and reconnection. There is researched data to validate the effectiveness of family coming together for an intervention and staying connect throughout recovery. What about people who do not have any family support? There are substance abusers who have hurt their family members so significantly, that the family has had to cut its ties with the substance abuser. This can happen when a family has supported the substance abuser over and over with no success. It can happen when the substance abuser becomes physically aggressive and dangerous to be around. It can happen for numerous different reasons. In these cases the substance abuser will not only need to recover from substance abuse but need additional support to learn how to reconnect with their family. Further study could be directed towards a community coming together to support substance abuser who have no family to help
