Movies every so often are based upon other movies, books or plays. These films contain similar content and differences with a bit of a twist. In the famous Disney movie “The Lion King” and Shakespeare “Hamlet “ , there’s seen to be a great amount of similarities and difference between both great movies. As odd as it seems, the typical audience of both differentiate but when analyzed, they both reflected off each other.
Noticeably, the first similarity one would distinguish is how the characters from each remeble one another. Simba is Hamlet, Mufasa is Hamlet (Father), Scar is Claudius and Nala is Ophelia, the list goes on from there. Also, the audience can see similar events take part. In Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” Hamlet Jr, Claudius, Gertrude, Ophelia, Polonius , and Laertes are all killed off .The only two people to die in the Lion King are Mufasa and Scar, and ends with a“happily ever after” scene and it foretells that the story will continue with Simba's son. Moreover, in “The Lion King” and “Hamlet”, the main characters differentiae when it comes to their morals. While Simba receives moral direction from Zazu and Rafiki that help him make right decisions for himself, Hamlet Jr. is only provoked by revenge. For example, Hamlet accidentally kills Ophelia’s father, Polonius, whom he mistakes for his uncle behind a pillar in his mother’s closet. Another important dissimilarity is the roles that the mothers Sarabi (Simba's mother) and Gertrude (Prince Hamlet's mother) play in both films. Gertrude marries Claudius for which she invites her own son's malicious criticism, while Sarabi chooses to remain faithful to her deceased
