5- List and describe the functional components of an HER
The functional components of an Electronic Health Record range in the literature from five to eight essential ones:
1-Patient Management Component: This is an integrated system which explains the main reasons for an ‘EHR’. Data input come in a variety of sources like registration, admission, contact info, insurance information, etc. In one setting providers have access simultaneously if needed to imaging, audio recording, narrative, vital signs, alergies, past and present medical history of their patient. This component involves in HL7 standard terms ADT functionality.
2- Clincal Components which contain clinician order entry and clinical decision support. Providers through this mechanism write the medical orders for medications, test and procedures based on registered diagnosis and labs results. Also, providers rely on prompts, alerts, warnings, reminders to improve compliance, workflow, delivery of care, screenings, reinforce preventives practices, and avoid or reduce duplicate order. Clinical components inside EHR tend to improve clinician productivity.
