In chapters 7-10, there were some connections that tied together with the research. Some of the research came from religious connections, important story lines, and others. One of the first connections that influenced me to research, was in Chapter 9. In Chapter 9, Billy goes to time square and sees Kilgore Trout at a bookstore. Kilgore Trout was an author who wrote about a book about another man’s pilgrimage to find out if Jesus really died on the cross. This research came from a religious connection. Another important item to be researched was the signature “Poo-tee-weet?” saying that happens in the beginning and end of the novel. When the bird asks the signature question (both times), there is no reply. The bird asking the question resembles that not only does the audience not have a clue to what the bird is saying, but also the audience (and general population) has no sense about the war. Even though the book may not make sense to some people, it still conveys a man’s journey of his life after the war. In the beginning of Chapter 8, a Nazi propagandist, Howard W. Campbell , speaks to the sick prisoners in the slaughterhouse. This man was a character who previously appeared in one of Vonnegut’s novels, “Mother Night.” Campbell doesn’t really like American soldiers because they have no self-respect.
