Literacy Con Carino is a book that examine the literacy development in a disadvantaged agricultural community in south of Texas. The focus group of this book are 22 fifth grade, migrant students who are spanish dominant. Robert Bahruth, the Fifth-grade teacher, noticed that, his students were accustomed to failure. They were experiencing hatred and frustration toward school. He realized that the traditional ways of teaching will not work and, he needed to develop new strategies to improve their level of self-confidence and nurture their literacy growth
