Liza May Minnelli is an American and singer. Best known for her Academy Award-winning role as Sally Bowles in the 1972 musical film Cabaret directed by Bob Fosse, she is noted for her energetic stage presence and her powerful contralto voice.
Early Life:
Minnelli is the daughter of film actress and singer Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli. She was born on March twelve, 1946, in Hollywood, California. In 1961 she went to New York City, attending the high school of performing arts and the Chadwick school. Her first film performance was at the age of 3 when she appeared in the final scene of the musical movie "In the good old summertime" (1949). The film has Garland and Van Johnson as stars. Minnelli also has a half-sister, Lorna, and a stepbrother, Joey, from Garland's wedding to Sid Luft. She has another half-sister, Christiane Nina Minnelli, from her father's second wedding. Minnelli's godparents were Kay Thompson and her husband William Spier. Her parents gave her the name after hearing Ira Gershwin's song "Liza (All the Clouds'll Roll Away)".
