Lockie Leonard: Human Torpedo is a novel by famous Australian author, Tim Winton. This book is about a young boy named Lockie Leonard who is twelve and three quarters, loves surfing and just moved to a new area; this means to a new school too. The key ideas or themes portrayed in this novel are ‘money can’t buy happiness’, teenage relationships and love.

‘Money can’t buy happiness’ is clearly displayed with the comparison of the Leonard’s and the Streeton’s. The Leonard’s are described as being quite happy, even though they live in a poorer area and having very little money. Whereas the Streeton’s live in the richer part of town and are wealthy but, “They hate each other. Only the money keeps them together” Vicki says about her parents.
