For the last few years of my life, I have lived in two worlds: the world of books and the world of reality. Both existences are crucial to me, yet they serve in different aspects. In the book world, I feel the resentment Hester had as she wore the scarlet letter; I watch the summer hazy days go by with the Finches and live precariously through a CIA agent trapped in the Middle East. My reality, however, is less eccentric but not less real as I learn daily from the people surrounding me. But to further in life and prepare for the adult world, a world for which I am not prepared, I believe the Lone Star Honors College will be very beneficial for me educationally, personally, and professionally.
The Honor’s program does not promote rote learning, but rather it engages the students to reveal their creativity. And the small ratio of students to teachers allows the learning process to be communicative and personal. I believe these characteristics of the program will encourage me to explore deeper than the written text. My curiosity will be increased as I communicate with my professors and fellow students who are just as determined to excel as I am. Furthermore, with activities such as seminars, international capstones, and presentations, the honors program will not only challenge me to step out of my comfort zone, but also, it will teach me to

In a four-year institution, I would be surrounded with students my age who are just as inexperienced as I am. However, in the LSC honors program, I will not only receive knowledge from my professors, but I will also learn from my classmates who may have traveled the world or had a lifetime of careers beforehand. In this selected program, I will be with students who have the mentality to succeed, therefore, we will learn together, support one another, and develop a friendship that will be beneficial throughout the years to
