Ralph is a much more Conservative leader than Jack by showing he likes things done in an orderly fashion and makes decisions with the common good in mind. He displays attributes of a leader that can maintain civilization even in the midst of a crisis. Jack on the other hand is the complete opposite. Jack makes the thought of survival his first priority and nothing will stand in the way of his blood thirsty rampage to survive. Completely opposite from the civilized Ralph, Jack has lost who he once was and the thought of life or death is the root for his madness. The rest of the children look up to both these individuals as they lack the ability to make decisions for themselves. The children see them as leaders and look to them for answers as to how they will survive the crisis.
