Why is the rest of the group not trusting of piggy? Lord of the Flies was written during the Cold War; however, it was based during WWII and it was written by William Goulding. Piggy, 12 year old boy who was useless, short, and considered as their guiding guardian. In 1938 Britain tried to avoid another one with Germany by signing in a treaty with Germany, but when Hitler broke the agreement a few months later it was clear they had to go to work. Piggy believes they wont get rescued, ignores others because they don’t let him talk when he gets the conch and they ignore him and think he’s fat and useless, and engages himself by acting like an adult while helping them try to get rescued which affects the novel positively.
