Ghiberti’ first book pertained to the history of art in ancient times. In his first book, Ghiberti reveals “his belief that the inseparability of practice and theory is responsible for the excellence of ancient art” (Britannica.com). His second book, pertains to art of the immediate past. Ghiberti expresses his respect and admiration for Sienese painters and a goldsmith by the name of Gusmin.
