Walter proves to be an unpleasant character more so in the first act, seeming to only be thinking about himself. Keeping that in mind, he is disgusted with the life he is living while seeing others thrive on success. Later on in the play Walter goes on to say this “we all tied up in a race of people that don’t know how to do nothing but moan, pray and have babies! (Lorraine Hansberry 2.1)”. He lays off his frustration on his own race, saying they are the ones to blame on how things are today between people. Although Walter has had his negatives he has also shown his brighter side. He is a man of big dreams, thriving to become someone important. His desire is to start a liquor store and from there to support not only himself, but also to support his family in the best way possible. Although moral support from his own family is not given. Eager to achieve his goal Walter speaks his mind out with mama, “I want so many things that they are driving me kind of crazy… Mama look at me. (Lorraine Hansberry 1.2)”. Walters desires become a problem since for him it seems like he has no support from the family. All he asks is for a chance to prove himself that investing on that liquor store could prove of great help to them, he wants to pan out his dreams to become successful and to stop living their poor
