Women shape the values men carry and the relationships they form. For Walter, he felt like women were only good for having babies. The pressure of poverty began to get to Walter as he tried to convince his family that his liquor business would help the family out. His mother being so religious didn't agree with the liquor business. Ruth was only trying to show Walter that she isn't disappointed by her husband. Although being a chauffeur for white men didn't show dignity for Walter. Walter’s obsession with the insurance money causes relationships to be tested and find his place in his family. Walter wanted his mom to give him the insurance money to provide for the family. However, Mama tried to convince him the only thing he needs is his family, so she bought a house in Clybourne park. Mrs. Younger tries to make Walter see things her point of view. The text states ,“ I—I just seen my family falling apart….just falling to pieces in front of my eyes…We couldn’t have gone on like we was today. Walter feels like he's failed his wife and son. Unlike for Walter, Ruth was able to focus on the positive side: the family is together and have each other. Even though Ruth loves her husband, she realizes that she cannot give her husband what he really wants. Quoted in the text “I don’t want nothing hot to drink. (Almost plaintively) Why you always trying to give me something to eat? RUTH (Standing and looking at him helplessly) What else can I give you, Walter Lee Younger.” (Hansberry 88.)
