A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry suggests that both a dreamer and a realist are necessary in order for a dream to come true. A balance is always necessary, in this case between a dreamer and a realist, this can be seen through Asagai and Beneatha. When Beneatha's dream of becoming a doctor was no longer possible, it took Asagai to make her realize that simply the will to make her dream come true will not satisfy. This leads Beneatha to feel defeated, and useless, seen when she states that “I used to care” this shows that her will to move forward with her dream is gone.
