LOS BANOS PD CASE 201106599/201106537 (04/06/2011-04/06/2011)
On 04/06/2011 at approximately 0508 hours officers with the Los Banos Police department responded to 725 Juniper circle in the city of Los Banos for a report of a shooting which had just occurred. Officer Provencio arrived at Los Banos Memorial Hospital to speak to the victim, Juan Ojeda a documented Sureno criminal street gang member from the city of Los Banos. Ojeda stated he was standing outside his residence, waiting to be picked up from work when he noticed a white crown Victoria stop and back up. Ojeda turned around and heard gun shots and realized he was struck by a bullet. Detective Melden arrived on at the hospital and observed Ojeda was struck in his lower right buttocks. On 06/06/2011 Detective Melden was called out for follow up regarding the shooting. After several officers observed a male subject identified as Kenny HERNANDEZ driving a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle provided by the witnesses on the previous days, Detective Melden contacted Enterprise Rent-A-Car and learned on 04/04/2011 HERNANDEZ rented a white grand Marquis which Detective Melden observed is similar in appearance to a Crown Victoria. Det. Melden also was able to determine that Hernandez brought back the vehicle to Enterprise at 1734 hours on 04/06/2011. Hernandez was also identified as the driver of the vehicle in case 201106769. HERNANDEZ was also identified as being the responsible subject in shooting just days after this shooting on San Juan Ave. Det. Melden also stated HERNANDEZ is a Norteno criminal street gang member. Det. Melden believed HERNANDEZ was trying to take the life of a rival gang member. HERNANDEZ refused to speak to investigators about this case.
