It is, indeed, Louis Armstrong the trumpeter, singer, comedian, and film star who came into the world of music out of Pan Alley pop into a fresh and exciting era of hot jazz and swing. Single handedly Armstrong did not achieve this goal, but did indeed set standards of originality and spontaneity that have not been surpassed since.
