The Louisiana Purchase had many advantages, but it was not perfect, as it had some disadvantages as well. The Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the young upcoming United States for a very incredible deal of only $15 million dollars. A disadvantage to purchasing this territory was that it went against the constitution. The United States President at the time, who was Thomas Jefferson, had a moral dilemma with this. In spite of the fact that the Louisiana Purchase was one of his greatest achievements, the purchase went against his beliefs of the government being limited. This territory extended from the Mississippi River to the start of the Rocky Mountains. The territory also stretched from the Gulf of Mexico to the border of Canada. With the purchase of this territory, the United States got 13 new states, thus doubling the size of the nation. The second main reason was the price of the land, and how beneficial this territory was to the United States. All of the Louisiana Purchase was all mainly unexplored, untouched wilderness. The land had soil that was so fertile, it was a whole great new land for new crops to be grown. All the new crops that were planted, created some new opportunities for new jobs, and new opportunities for the upcoming towns and cities to become more densely populated. The crops also meant that there would be more money for the nation. The fact that all this land that the United States acquired from the nation of France for the shockingly low price of only $15 million, is very phenomenal. The $15 million dollars spent on the territory nowadays would be roughly around $283 million dollars in today’s money, which is about twenty times more than what we originally spent. With all
