In a county named Montgomery, there is a problem of low voter turnout. The solution used to combat this problem was to lower the voting age to 16 years old from 18 years old. By lowering the voter age, the city officials planned for this to increase the voter turnout as well as making the Montgomery County the nation’s first to lowering the voting age from 18 to 16. I believe that lowering the voting age was a bad choice. The reasons that this is a bad idea is because most teenagers do not feel motivated to vote, 16-17 years olds most likely will come from a politically active family, increasing the power of groups that are already well represented, and lowering the voting age can have unforeseen consequences that could change the way an election will go.

Some opponents to the lower voting age say, “Young people barely old enough to drive a car don’t have enough perspective to vote,” or a critic that said “teens should not be allowed to dilute the value of the ballots cast by older, more experienced people.” These two people are correct, the young voters will vote for the candidate that would support them more than the other candidate. This would be a way for candidates to get those extra votes in by appealing to the younger demographic. Hell, there were even some people that had wasted their vote on a dead gorilla, and before the elections, there was a person that had an approval rating in florida, and this was a person that said “HAH, got em” in a vine that had been trending.
