She was born in Jamestown, New York on August 6th,1911 to Desiree and Henry Ball. Later on came Lucille’s younger brother, Fred. When she was growing up her family became very poor. Also, when she was 3, her father Henry died and that made it even harder to live.
Ball applied for many jobs including Broadway chorus lines, but got rejected many times. Lucille persuaded her mother to let her enroll in a New York City Drama School. When she first started acting, she did not want to be the star of the show. Also, while she was still in New York City, in 1927, she started to call herself Diane Belmont, and became a model.

This show was about her life and it was very funny!! In almost all of her episodes she was trying to be famous, like her husband. One of her most well-known episodes was the Chocolate Scene!! “Lucy” was working in a chocolate factory. Her job was to wrap every single chocolate kiss, but the machine went faster and faster! So, “Lucy and Ethel” (Vivian Vance) stuck the chocolates in their blouses, they ate the chocolates, and they also put some in their hats! That was a very funny scene! Being a comedienne and actress put Lucille in a very special spot; she won many awards. Ball got nominated 13 times for an EMMY; and won 4. Ball won a Golden Globe. Lucille also was the first woman to receive the International Radio and Television Society Gold Medal and she was the first lady executive to lead a major Hollywood production company.
