Lucille Clifton, who wrote "Earth is a Living Thing," Mary Oliver, who wrote "Sleeping in the Forest," and Pat Mora, who wrote "Gold" all used personification but how? In the poem "The Earth is a Living Thing" Lucille Clifton used personification by making the earth act as a person, Lucille did this by giving the earth human abilities, for example "ruffling its wild back and tossing mountains into the sea" which took place in line 2-3 in the first stanza.
