Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Description Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, otherwise known as SLE is a chronic inflammatory disease that has variable signs and follows a worsening and remitting course. This disease occurs in the internal organ system and more then 90 percent of cases transpire in women. It is the most common type of lupus disorder and most people state that they have Lupus when referring to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
Etiology

SLE during childhood can cause symptoms such as a rash formed on the cheekbone, ulcer/skin involvement, kidney immersion, seizures, low blood platelet levels, fever, lymphadenopathy, and urinary cellular casts. In adulthood SLE you are twice as vulnerable to have symptoms of Raynaud Pleuritis; discoloration of fingers and toes and Sicca; which causes dry eyes and dry mouth. During childbearing age, it is common for women who have Systemic Lupus Erythematosus to have signs of fever, joint pain, and a rash. There are several medications used to treat SLE, some examples include Antimalarials, Corticosteroids, Nonbiologic DMARDS, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and Biologic DMARDS. These medications consist of anti-inflammatory drugs, and steroid usage for patients who have involvement with vital organs. Vitamin D deficiency is more prevalent in patients with SLE then the average person. It is said that this supplement can reduce fatigue and improve endothelial function, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. The monoclonal antibody belimumb; a B-lymphocyte stimulator-specific inhibitor has been affective in reducing SLE activity and the amount of flares that occur. Hospitalization is sometimes the treatment option for SLE flare-ups because it is hard to distinguish a fever with the side effects from this disease or an infection, which can be disastrous in some
