Putarch, Lycurgus is an article in a biography of Lycurgus, written by Putarch in 75 C.E. the purpose being to describe the values Lycurgus sought for the Spartan government, focusing on the helot, or slave, population and how to keep the population under control. The main features of the Spartan State were centered on loyalty to the government and military service.
