Many people often see television commercials describing certain drugs such as Lyrica with a long list of side effects. These commercials that many of us fast forward to get to our regular program are more informative than you might recall. For example, the commercial for the drug know as Lyrica is prescribed by a doctor to a grandmother suffering from diabetic nerve pain. She describes the pain as “shooting, burning, pins and needles”(https://www.ispot.tv/ad/ACzv/lyrica-tap-dancing). She claimed that before her diabetic nerve pain she was active and able to attend her granddaughter’s recitals, dance, and she was also able to work at the dance studio in which she owned. After she took Lyrica she's was able to attend her granddaughter's recitals once again due to the lessening of her pain. …show more content…
Lyrica’s scientific name is Pregabalin (Parke-­Davis page 1). It was invented by a medical chemist named Richard Bruce Silverman, his first intention was to cure epileptic seizures. Lyrica manufacturer is Pfizer (Parke­-Davis page 1). Lyrica’s main active ingredient is Pregabalin which is a neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid.It plays the principal role in reducing neuronal excitability throughout the nervous system. In humans, GABA is also directly responsible for the regulation of muscle tone.

Pregabalin is used to treat a number of things such as epilepsy, fibromyalgia, and diabetic nerve pain. This drug was FDA approved in 2005 under its generic name Lyrica (Robert H. Dworkin & Peter Kirkpatrick).
