MMMJJK Child Care Center Handbook

Welcome to MMMJJK,
We are a holistic facility that consists of a learning environment and curriculum that is adaptable for every child individually regardless of age or cultural differences.
As caregivers in the environment we try to respect diversity in the characteristics present in our multiethnic society that we have create at this facility.
It is our goal as the children’s caregivers that we plan to maximize health and wellness promotion through disease prevention and risk management.
Some of the things we can ensure at our programs to increase wellness status are:
1. Checking immunizations

This area is routinely sanitized before and between uses. Diapers are removed and properly disposed of in a covered container. Teachers wear gloves at all times for optimal sanitary procedures. During diapering, teachers verbally communicate with the children and talk through the process to inform children of each step. Children will have their own labeled cubby/box reserved for extra diapers, wipes, and extra clothes within the diapering area. It is advised that parents label their child’s items kept at school to ensure that children use only their items and to prevent the loss of personal belongings. When dealing with aggressive behaviors such as biting or hitting we will work with the parents to ensure consistency at home and school. We believe in using positive discipline with the children, our goal is for the children to learn self-control of their feeling and behaviors. As preventative measures teachers and staff member will models appropriate behaviors and language. When and if an aggressive behavior is noticed the teacher will try to redirect the child within the situation. If redirection doesn’t work short-term separation from their peers may be implemented. To encourage positive behaviors we will use encouragement throughout the day when the behavior isn’t exhibited and we will be clear and consistent with our expectations. During a medical or dental emergency, we first assess whether the situation is safe and how severe the situation is. We will give basic EMS support until the person we have designated to handle emergencies arrives. We will not move a severely injured child unless it is necessary. If it is needed, we will call EMS for transportation to a medical center. We will notify the parent or guardian of the child of the situation as soon as possible. A responsible
