Describe an experience, passion, or characteristics that illustrates what you would contribute to the MSU community and how this will add to the overall richness of campus life? I am not new to difficult situations. My Junior year I chose to participate in cross country, and doing so forced me out of my comfort zone and introduced me to new people, difficulties, and uncomfortable situations. This year was my first time running cross country and the first time I even thought about running. Although I was the ‘’fresh meat’’ to the team, as the season continued we became more like a family. The strengths I obtained from me doing Cross Country changed me forever.

I decided to run cross country to get conditioned for the upcoming baseball season and make new connections with people. With over seventy runners on just the JV team, I was determined to work my way up to one of the better runners for the team. Every race, my teammates cheered me on, pushed me to my breaking point, and motivated me to keep going even when I wanted to stop. When I got done with the run, I was exhausted, I had never felt that exhausted before in my life, but I knew I had a lot of work to do. Improvement is every athlete’s goal and the only way to achieve that goal is by improving your work ethic and putting more time into whatever it is that you are doing. I was determined to improve not only for myself, but for everyone that was supporting me. I wanted it to be noticed that I had been improving and gain the respect of my teammates. I improved my race time by 5 minutes and 33 seconds throughout the course of the season. I could not have achieved my goals that season without the support of my teammates.
