Birth
Actually born with the name Maria Sklowdowska in November 1867 in Warsaw Poland, she changed it to Marie when she moved to France for it is the French version of it and her last name changed when she married her husband.
Education
Her father would send her and her sister to a secret night school called ‘’The Floating University.’’ She got a job and finished her studies before her sister, so provided her with financial aid until she got a job and could return the favor.
She worked as a governess until she was 24 where she started studying more French and math, then after getting a job cleaning the glassware in the university labs she knew what she wanted to be.
Her work
Co-discovered radioactivity, which led to many new discoveries that are used to this modern day. For example, she basically discovered what today’s cancer treatment are.
She was the first woman to ever earn a Nobel Prize and later became the first to win two (in different categories.)
Discovered Radium and Polonium naming Radium because it is “radio-active’’ and naming Polonium after her homeland of Poland.
She came up with the term radio-active being the first to ever really use it since she was one of the pioneers in radiation.
During World War II, she mastered x-rays and was able to make mini x-ray machines to be carried into the war and help soldiers out in the “Little Curies.”
