IIn the wake of the American Civil War in 1861, Major Sullivan Ballou responded to the call of Abraham Lincoln to volunteer in the Rhode Island Province. Because of his patriotism to his country, Major Sullivan chose to acknowledge his responsibility and obligation. He mentioned that “ the indication are very strong that we shall move in a few days, perhaps tomorrow”. But before he moved in the First Battle of Bull Run in Washington to join the army, he has written his sincere love and loyalty to comfort his wife, Sarah and his children.
