The area was already used for New York’s commercial waste. Her organizing helped stop the siting of it. Carter believes that one of the smallest points of her career was her unsuccessful run for New York City Council. Her loss in politics was a blessing to her, as it gave her motivation to establish and lead the non-profit environmental justice solutions organization, Sustainable South Bronx, which has had more influence than a New York City Council seat would have. Its central idea is that people shouldn't need to move out of their neighborhoods to live in a better one. In 2003, Sustainable South Bronx enacted an urban green-collar training plan. Many of the course's graduates had already before been incarcerated. all were receiving some form of public handout. The plan now shows an 85 percent employment rate, in things such as urban forestry, brown-field clean-up, green roof installation and maintenance. Carter would like to see her organization grow. She mainly used loyalty, creativity, and passion. Majora Carter is very inspirational to her community. When her fellow neighbors didn’t speak up, she spoke up herself. She made a difference in her community and it paid off. Majora Carter is a leader to her community because of her loyalty to her community. Majora was loyal to her friends and family and didn’t leave their side when their community was getting polluted with wastes. Instead of giving up she used grit and found a way to create parks, and spreading the word on being environmental. She has inspired so many people. Her smile shows warmth and makes her a very powerful and strong person. She has no fear of anything, and is willing to risk for everyone around her. She has said “You know, people understand fear and opportunity. It may look different, but it's really the same thing. She has also stated “Just because you have a piece of trash and you throw it away and it gets hauled away, it doesn't mean that it's not affecting someone else.” She decided that in order to persevere, she needed to learn.
