I am the daughter of immigrant parents. I grew up around culture and religion since that is how my parents grew up. My mom and dad immigrated to the US from Eritrea which is located in East Africa. Eritrea is controlled by an oppressed and authoritarian government meaning that the citizens of Eritrea have no freedom of speech and has the population of Eritrea manipulated into thinking what the government wants you to believe,etc.. Due to this government’s laws, no one has made a call to action which was against Malcolm X’s views as we read in his Autobiography. Malcolm X has faced multiple ups and downs throughout his life and has proven that his voice is used for good, not bad. A few years after Malcolm X was born, his mother told him that while she was pregnant with him, a bunch of Ku Klux Klan members rode on horses to their house in Nebraska and started to attack their home. They started mocking and shouting towards his mom about her husband’s preaching. Malcolm X’s father’s preaching was from the words of Marcus Garvey who created the UNIA and his father also being part of the association created more of greater impact because since his father a civil rights activist and Baptist minister, he knew that “ the collections of my father got for his preaching were mainly what fed and clothed us. still the image of him that made me proudest was his crusading and militant campaigning with the words of Marcus Garvey”(pg.9) The words crusading and militant are both similar words to the Malcolm X expressed in the quote that he was proud of his father for being outspoken and taking pride in his African heritage. His father’s preaching influenced Malcolm X’s ideals and beliefs at a very young age, he knew that “ if you want something, you had better make some noise”(pg.11).
