Since the first factory founded in the late eighteenth century, management had increasingly become a crucial element affecting the factories’ production. Thus, lots of researches and works around management and organization came out, pushing the knowledge of management science maturing. With the development of study in management and organization, different school of theory came out like Frederick W. Taylor and Elton Mayo and so forth. However, those studies frequently concern in the basic factors of management or organizations.
This essay will firstly discuss the emergence of management and how this is related to the process of bureaucratization. Following this, it will explain the different styles of management. After this, it will focus on conflict and resistance at work. Finally, it will look at Fordism and Post-Fordism.
2.0 The Emergence of Bureaucratic Management
It was not used scientific manners in management until the late nineteenth. The owners of manufactories depended on the experience and it is no principle for workers. However, squeezing cannot be accepted by the growing labours. They became dissatisfied with the salary and the working time. Then, Taylor develops the science management theory at the crucial moment. It is the first time that management turned into a scientific thing which could be measured. In the point of Taylor, managers and workers have different equal work and reasonability. The tasks of specifying the scientific way and establishing the proper and effective methods the responsibilities of managers, while the works are responsible to abide those method and complete the work together, because the possibilities of conflicts decreases when the relationship of workers is Close. His contribution to the general administrative theory is the theory of authority structures and relations. Additionally, an ideal type of organization bureaucracy is formed in his study.
It is necessary to pose an idea of bureaucracy when the old pattern was out of date. Bureaucracy is the name of an organizational form used by sociologists and organizational design professionals (Nordenflycht, 2010). Max Weber, a sociologist studying organizations, founded the theory about the rationality or legitimacy in an organization which just met the very situation of the society. Authority structures and relations are also the significant field he concerned about at that time. As the division of social labour force and the science management by Taylor was used, the size of manufactories was getting huger. It is impossible to use only individual experience to do the management. A thinking of building a more sophisticated organization was appropriate and useful. Bureaucratic organization which is of great importance and still studied by the following scholars, helped to solve the conflict between the factory owners and workers.
There are amounts of different new theories brought up in management after the second war as the quantitative approach. It evolved from the development of mathematical and statistical solutions to military problems during the Second World War After the war was over, many of the techniques that had been used for military problems were applied to businesses. Organizations seek to manage their employees differently depending on the various size, culture, hierarchical arrangement and so forth. It would not accept a pleasant outcome if we treat every corporation the same. And there would have no improvement through the never changed method the manager hold.
The management of paternalistic way is not suitable
