In 1967, manatees were officially listed as an endangered species. In 2004, there were 276 manatee deaths, and in 2013, there were 769, manatee deaths are at a constant increase and they’re at risk of becoming extinct. The problem is they live in the ocean, the biggest catch-all for human waste and pollution. Three of the biggest reasons for manatee endangerment are pollution, boat collisions, and habitat loss. The one thing these issues have in common is that humans have caused all of them. The first reason manatees are dying at outrageous numbers is pollution-related affairs. The biggest form of pollution manatees are facing is human waste. Human waste is collected in the ocean, whether it be from sewage, farm fertilizer, or everyday trash.
