American Cults

America is home to plenty of groups for people to feel welcome. It comes to a certain point where things go too far, and lives are put in danger. These are the beginnings of a cult. What would tempt someone to join a cult in the first place?

Cults are known to have a bad reputation, so what makes them so attractive? This brings us to the Manson Family Cult, one of the most known cults in Americas history. The Manson Family Cult was founded in the mid-sixties following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, by Charles Manson. The question as to what tempts someone to join a cult can be answered in many ways. For the Manson Family Cult, it was because he preached his belief that he was Jesus. That alone is an odd thing to preach about, but because a lot of his followers were impressionable young girls. Manson was said to be charismatic in his drug-induced state, promising a higher status.

What convinced the press and Leo Ryan to visit Guyana in the first place? Rumors of people being held against their will surfaced, along with word of them being physically and psychologically abused. The investigation took place November seventeenth, which was the third day of his trip. The following day, he left, and the Peoples Temple Cult attempted an attack before he departed.
