Mexicans knew that there was a possibility of Texas becoming divided to turn into a state of the U.S. or a sovereign state. Manuel de Mier y Teran was a well-known Mexican Military captain that was sent to Texas to describe everything that he saw. In 1829, Manuel de Mier y Teran stated that he saw a huge amount of legal and illegal settlers in Texas and suggested that Mexico raise its armed forces in Texas and to forbid any additional settlers from the U.S. and vast numbers of Mexican colonists into the area. In 1830, Mexico followed Teran’s recommendation and sent further armed forces to prevent more immigration.
