What makes marchingband so intense? Is it the because winning is so important or is it the knowing that your about to step onto the field to show off a performance you have worked months on with your team? I think it's a little bit of both. The feeling of knowing you can win or lose with something you have put timeless amount of hours in can get very overwhelming. Sometimes it gets so overwhelming that you make a few mess ups before, during, and after the show. Speaking of being overwhelmed in one extreme case at a competetion at UMKC someone got a little too nervous. Until a tragic event occurred over on side one of the marching field. Watching closely you can just see the look of panic on someone's face as the bell of there tuba feel off. It felt like it all happened in slow motion. After the initial shock of what just happened and our eyes focused back into the show we saw the tuba just kept going, hit what seemed to be all of his spots. If you looked at where the bell had fallen you can see person after person trip and get back up trip and then get back up. It took at least another minute into the show before a band parent was finally able to pull the bell of the tuba out of the way of the other band members. The show had at least 5 minutes left, but that didn’t stop the tuba player from marching the show like nothing was wrong and performing as if it was the last show he would ever do. It really was incredible. I personally do not know if I could've gone on when with the show. Not only he went on though, everyone that tripped over the bell kept going and finished the show and it was like nothing had happened and no one one had gotten hurt. At the end of the show the band walked off the field with pride and they got a very large roar of applause.
